Dada Saheb Phalke Award

                              Shri K. Balachander, the famous Tamil Film Director  is confered with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in cinema for the year 2010,
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest award in cinema given annually by the Government of India for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema. It was instituted in 1969,the birth centenary year of Dadasaheb Phalke, considered as the father of Indian cinema. The award comprises a Swarna Kamal (golden lotus) medallion, a cash prize of  1 million and a shawl.
                                                     K. Balachander  (born 9 July 1930) is an Indian film producer, director and screenwriter. He has directed films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. He is known for his distinct filmmaking style.
                                                        He has introduced hundreds of actors in Tamil Cinema including Kamal Hassan, Rajinikanth, Prakash Raj and Vivek. He also own a production house, Kavithalaya Productions. He was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award in 1987.  He is popularly known as Iyakkunar Sikaram in Kollywood.
